From the street, these three look almost the same. From above, the difference is plain, and it decides whether your fence is still private after a few Del Rio summers have dried the wood out.
City of Del Rio, Development Services
The city requires a permit to build a new fence, or to replace or repair half or more of an existing one. That covers most of the jobs people call us about, ordinary backyard privacy fences included.
Smaller repairs below that line do not need one, and acreage outside the city limits is not under the city's permit at all. Either way, we sort it out before a crew shows up.
A phone quote for a Del Rio fence misses the thing that moves the price most: what is under the dirt. One lot has a foot of soil over solid limestone; the next hits caliche six inches down. We walk the line, probe the ground, count corners and gates, and check whether a truck can reach the back. Then you get a number.
Fence, tear-out, gates, and rock drilling each get their own line. If your lot needs every hole cored, you can see what that costs instead of finding it buried in a lump sum, and our number is easy to hold up against anyone else's.
Inside Del Rio city limits, a new fence, or replacing half or more of an old one, needs a permit from Development Services. We prepare the application and file it, and the crew does not start until it is approved.
Before the crew leaves, we walk the finished fence with you: gate swing, latches, posts plumb, and, on an automatic gate, where the manual release is and how to use it when the power goes out.
Most people already know roughly what they want and are really asking whether it is the right call. Here is the short version, sorted by what you are trying to do.
You want the neighbors not to see in.Wood privacy fence, six-foot, board-on-board so it stays private as the wood dries out in our heat. Cedar handles the sun better than pine, and every post gets cored into the rock below it.
Something is already there, and it is failing.Repair if the posts are still solid, rebuild if they are not. We will tell you which one you are looking at, and whether the work crosses the city's fifty percent line for a permit.
You want to contain a dog and not spend much.Chain link, black vinyl-coated if you would rather not look at silver mesh, with bottom tension wire if the dog digs. Open mesh also shrugs off wind that would lean a solid fence over.
You want the boundary marked but the house still visible.Ornamental iron. It is also the usual choice around a pool, where picket spacing and self-closing, self-latching gates have their own rules.
You never want to maintain it.Vinyl, as long as it is a UV-stabilized product. Del Rio sun turns bargain vinyl chalky and brittle within a few summers, and the showroom sample will not tell you which kind you are buying.
You have acreage, not a yard.Pipe and wire. Goat-tight net wire or barbed wire around the perimeter, welded pipe at the entrance, and an H-brace at every corner and gate.
All of Del Rio, from the older blocks around San Felipe Creek to the newer subdivisions out toward Laughlin, plus Val Verde Park, Cienegas Terrace, and the Lake Amistad side of town. For ranch work we cover Val Verde County and go as far as Brackettville and Comstock.
CREW IS OUR OWN. NO SUBCONTRACTED GATE WORK.
No, and there is no deposit to get one. We come out, measure, check the ground, walk the line with you, and leave a written, itemized number. You are not obligated to anything.
Inside city limits, yes for a new fence, and yes if you are replacing or repairing half or more of an existing one. Smaller repairs do not need one. We file the application with Development Services as part of the job.
Mostly because of what is under the ground. A lot with deep soil digs fast; a lot sitting on limestone needs every hole cored, which takes time and equipment. Footage, height, material, corners, gates, and tear-out all count too, which is why we look before we quote.
Yes. Val Verde Park, Cienegas Terrace, the lake area, and ranch property across Val Verde County are regular work for us, and we go out to Brackettville and Comstock for ranch jobs.
